IMPORTANT NOTE: This welding tip does NOT fit the Mini-Fuzer Plastic Welding Station
Polyvance's Scimitar Welding tip is designed to weld plastic with flat stips, (ribbon welding rod) using an airless plastic welder. Instead of just smearing melted welding rod onto the surface, this plastic welding tip is designed to melt the base material and the bottom of the flat welding rod at the same time insuring a true fusion weld. Not only that, but it will also slightly v-groove the surface of the base material to increase the fusion area for an even stronger repair.
How to Use the Scimitar plastic welding tip
How to Use
Slide the welding ribbon down the smooth surface of the scimitar tip to melt the bottom of the ribbon rod. At the same time, v-groove and melt the surface of the substrate. As you pull the tip along the crack line, continue sliding the welding rod down the smooth surface of the welding tip.
Smooth out weld
Turn over the welder tip and use the smooth, curved part of the tip to smooth and flatten the weld.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's)
Will this tip fit into my soldering iron that I already have?
It is very unlikely that this tip will fit into your existing soldering iron. The threads on this tip are 12/24.
From what type of metal is this tip made?
This tip is cast brass, which is a mixture of copper and zinc. There is no lead in our brass and is, therefore, ROHS compliant. Be careful when buying knock-off welding tips as many of them contain lead (which is dangerous) and they bend easily if you apply too much pressure.
Why is it called a Scimitar tip?
After making this tip, we thought it looked like a scimitar sword. These swords with curved blades are typically associated with Middle Eastern, South Asian, or North African cultures.
How do you pronounce "Scimitar"?
It's pronounced "SIM-i-tar" (the "C" is silent).
