A user submitted pictures of his do-it-yourself, dashboard restoration for his 1971 Pontiac GTO. He followed the instructions that we showed for a 280Z Dashboard restoration and was kind enough to send us photos of his progress.
Step-By-Step Instructions
Photo 1
This shows how bad the 1970 Pontiac GTO dash was in the car and after the dash pad was removed. The vinyl got crunchy and brittle and would flake off.
Photo 2
The voids were filled with FiberFlex that is included with the FiberFlex repair kit.
Photo 3
The FiberFlex gets sanded down.
Photo 4
Padded dash filler (Part No. 2050-9) was applied and sanded. It looks like some kind of glazing putty was used to fill in low spots.
Photo 5
It appears that some sandable primer was applied, probably to fill in sand scratches.
Photo 6
Paint is applied in this image.
Photo 7
An image of the top of the dashboard.
